Beginning With Character

As I sit down to write my very first blog post on my own website, my heart is filled with gratitude and my mind is littered with thoughts of what I should say, what I could say, and how I should say it. In my experience, I've always found that the best way to do anything is to lead with your heart, from a place of passion. There are times when we simply need to suspend intellectual thought and put our faith in what feels right and just see where it takes us.

While it would be easy to send this post in about 50 different directions based on my excitement and all of things I want to share with you all, I'm going to do my best to avoid doing precisely that. However, I would like to dive straight into who I am, what I do, and what you can expect to see from this blog and my website. Let's break it down, shall we?

I suppose there is no better way to start than by letting you all know that I am a 100%, Grade-A, certified Pokemon Master. If you know me, you know that I've loved Pokemon since it first came to the United States back in '98 when I first played Pokemon Red Version and partnered up with my buddy Charmander (fire starters for life)! This franchise became an enormous part of my life and shaped who I am today. The best way I can sum that up properly is with this snazzy quote from Mewtwo: "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I'll share with you a bit about what I do, why I do it, and what you can expect to see from here onward. Being a Pokemon Master has its perks, but creating a sustainable living is not necessarily one of them. What I really do is something I love so deeply that I can't even express it in words, but I'll try to explain it anyways. I am an actor, a model, and a fitness/lifestyle coach. Doesn't sound that crazy when you put it like that, but it's never the how or the what, it's always the why.

Acting has been my greatest passion ever since I was a young child, but it didn't occur to me until years later that I could actually pursue it as a career. Modeling is something I fell in love with over the course of my acting journey, having been given the opportunity to take part in various projects. Fitness and lifestyle coaching happened as a result of a tragedy that became my greatest driving force. It's not what I do that is so important, but why I do it. When you find your why, nothing can stop you.

I could write all day and still not be able to fully elaborate or express why I do what I do, or why I love it all so much. The best way for me to explain in a nutshell is to be transparent with you. I am very much an introvert and have struggled with my own self-conscious and self-image issues for as far back as I can remember. Which is strange, because I also remember being so care-free, fearless, and full of dreams as a kid, but somewhere along the way many of us are conditioned by society and those close to us. It has taken years of personal development to even get where I am today, which is far from who I want to become, but it's a marathon not a sprint.

At this point you're probably wondering how that last bit has anything to do with why I do acting, modeling, and fitness coaching. The direct answer is, it has everything to do with it. As someone who is both introverted and very empathetic, acting is not only my passion, but a way for me to step outside of who I am and tell a new story. I get to become a new character, feel their emotions, experience their experiences, and step outside of my shell as someone who is naturally introverted. Modeling has allowed me the same outlet, to create art and freedom of expression while stepping outside of my comfort zone. I used to hate being anywhere near the front of a camera lens, now I love it simply because it's a reminder of how far I've come and how far others can go as well. Love yourself first, you can't give water to the world if the well on the inside is dried up.

As for fitness coaching, that's a long, long story that I'll perhaps share in detail in the future. The short version is that I've been an athlete my whole life and always loved working out. Eventually, a tragedy in my health lead me to an amazing business and nutrition opportunity that completely changed my life in all areas. From that point forward, my nutrition game was on-point, I got in the best shape of my life, started doing personal development, began helping others reach their goals, and came up with the concept of Character Fit.

Character Fit is a vision and a mission that spawned from my love of personal growth, fitness, and helping people become the best version of themselves mentally and physically. The mission is simple: help people get into the best shape of their lives, help them develop an empowering mindset through personal development, and teach them to express themselves. To be themselves, be a character, and live with character.

Thus, bringing us to what this first blog post is all about and ultimately what my life is about- character. That one word has been like an anchor for me in my life and helped on my path to become the best version of myself, which is a life-long process. From playing characters my whole life as a gamer, to portraying them as an actor, all the way to the many amazingly unique individuals I've had the opportunity to meet over the course of my life, I have always been surrounded by characters. In the end, we become a product of our thoughts, our actions, and those we spend the most time with.

My hope is that your time spent here on my blog and my website will be an enjoyable one that leaves you in a more positive state. I want this to be a place for creativity, passion, education, networking, living your best life, and tapping into your true character. One central hub for everything: to stay up to date on all of my latest projects, to be inspired and learn from many blog posts to come, get advice on living a healthy active lifestyle, all the way to hanging out in the forums and sharing your passions and interests while networking with people. And now that this blog post officially has over 5,000 characters (and 1185+ words), that's a lot of character in itself!

In the theme of Beginning With Character, I'd like to share an image that holds a special place in my heart to kick-off the blog. This is a behind-the-scenes image that was captured off-script, in a moment where you can see me with a very real smile. The shot was taken on set of The Iron Gauntlet, the very first film I ever had the opportunity to be a part of. It's also a film that forever changed my life. You know what they say, you never forget your first...
